LAS’s newest group, the Community Lawyering Practice Group,
encompasses the organization’s civil rights and liberties cases. The group focuses on community-identified legal projects and needs. Working within the Community Lawyering team are the following programs:
CP4P Justice Corps
The Communities Partnering 4 Peace Justice Corps is the legal aid arm of Metropolitan Peace Initiatives.
A division of Metropolitan Family Services, Metropolitan Peace Initiatives (MPI) partners with community-based and citywide organizations to help heal Chicago’s communities experiencing the highest levels of gun violence. To learn more, click here.


The Chicago Project
The Chicago Project is LAS’ latest initiative – addressing civil rights issues at a critical time for our city.
Launched in 2026 as a direct response to federal law enforcement actions in Chicagoland, the Chicago Project aims to hold government actors accountable. To learn more, click here.
